How it's worked out

  1. Convert the pay you enter to a monthly figure: hourly × hours a month, daily × days a month, weekly × 52 ÷ 12, or annual ÷ 12.
  2. Convert the monthly figure to every other rate: ÷ hours a month for hourly, ÷ days a month for daily, × 12 ÷ 52 for weekly and × 12 for annual.
  3. Round each rate to the cent. Every rate comes from the pay you typed, never from another rounded rate, so nothing drifts.

Questions people ask

How many working hours are in a month in Kenya?

It depends on the contract. For overtime, the General Wages Order uses 225 hours, about a 52-hour week over a month. A 40-hour week is about 173.33 hours a month, and a 45-hour week is 195.

How do I convert a monthly salary to a daily rate?

Divide by the paid days in a month: 26 for a six-day week, about 21.67 for a five-day week, or 30 if the contract or a court uses calendar days.

Is the minimum daily wage just the monthly minimum divided by 26?

No. The 2026 Wage Order lists separate monthly, daily and hourly minimums for each occupation and area. A general labourer in a city gets at least KES 18,047.40 a month, KES 868.44 a day or KES 161.34 an hour, so check the column that matches how the worker is paid.

Does the converter include tax?

No. It converts gross pay only. Use the PAYE calculator to see take-home pay after PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and the housing levy.
